Permanent Supportive Housing

Five one-bedroom permanent supportive housing apartments are located at the Welcome Center. These units are targeted to service homeless young adults between the ages of 18 and 25. They will be able to receive supportive services including counseling, job skills training, and independent living skills on-site.

The supportive services for residents will be based on a European model created by the Foyer Federation for Youth, an organization established in the United Kingdom in 1992 to share a model for "meeting the needs of young people during their transition from dependence to independence by linking affordable accommodations to training and employment." Safe Haven is a member of the Foyer Federation, who says that all young people need a home, support and a springboard into independent living, learning and work. Foyer fills the gap for those youth who lack this support.

Rent is based on one-third of the tenant’s income and extra fees include a home phone and cable, as well as, groceries and personal items. Each apartment is fully furnished. Tenants sign a lease agreement and are expected to fulfill the obligations; however, the supportive services provide learning opportunities if the tenants face challenges.

    Eligibility:
  • Ages 18 – 25, both Males and Females
  • Homeless and have a disability
  • Desire to improve personal situation

Tenants meet individually with a Case Manger to create and review an Employment and Self Sufficiency Plan. The plan includes, but is not limited to, addressing employment, education/training, job search/retention skills, budgeting, future housing, transportation, physical/mental health, and personal goals. Tenants are encouraged to work on the goals utilizing Safe Haven Staff and Community Resources.
