Safe Haven Welcome Center
Since opening, Safe Haven has established itself in the community as a resource for troubled youth. With the construction of the Welcome Center and its five permanent supportive housing units, we are now centralizing and expanding these supportive services for youth and young families.
The goal of creating the Welcome Center is: to establish positive, long-term relationships with young people who find themselves struggling or who are at risk of becoming homeless or dependent on public assistance.
The Welcome Center will be located on the 60-acre Shepherd’s Path social service campus, which will also include Presbyterian Homes senior housing, a YMCA, a public park and other future uses.
Services to be offered
will include:
- Independent living skills training
- Case management
- Family community support services
- On-site nurse screening services
- Free walk-in counseling services
- Hygiene/personal care services

Other programs we are exploring include a new training program for foster parents, family mediation services, aftercare services for former transitional housing residents and their families, psychological assessments for pre-placement screenings, and Art Therapy.
In addition to support services, five one-bedroom permanent supportive housing apartments will be co-located at the new Welcome Center. These units will be targeted towards young adults in crisis. They will be able to receive supportive services including counseling, job skills training, and independent living skills on-site.
The Welcome Center is scheduled to open in the Summer of 2007.
Impact: The Welcome Center is part of Safe Haven’s long-term goal of becoming a comprehensive, multi-service social service agency for youth in the south metro area.
In a time when government social service programs are being slashed and in a suburban location where these services are scarce to begin with, we are essentially the safety net for youth in our service area. The Welcome Center facility will become the gateway for our supportive housing programs and other community services.

Seeking Individual Donations
Over the past two years, Safe Haven has raised over $700,000 from local corporations and foundations for this project, and has received significant commitments for in-kind labor and materials. While we are continuing to pursue grants and in-kind commitments, we are now focusing our fundraising efforts on local individuals and small businesses to help complete the project.
